About The Position

Temple University Hospital is a nationally respected teaching hospital on Temple University's Health Sciences Center campus, providing comprehensive healthcare services. As the chief clinical training site for the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, it offers a dynamic environment for high-quality care, teaching, and cutting-edge research. The professional medical interpreter facilitates linguistic and cultural communication between patients and healthcare providers, handling both spoken and written language in healthcare settings and adhering to a professional code of ethics. This role may also function as a Linguistic Services Coordinator, receiving and arranging interpreter services, triaging and prioritizing requests, and deploying staff and vendor interpreters. The interpreter will coordinate assignments across multiple Temple Health facilities. A medical interpreter certification test must be passed within 6 months of hire. The role also involves assisting with training and coaching new interpreters in classroom and clinical settings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 year experience as a formally trained, tested medical interpreter
  • General Experience communicating in English and target language (Bilingual)
  • General Experience in healthcare
  • Must pass medical interpreter certification test within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates linguistic and cultural communication between patients and providers.
  • Handles spoken and written language in the health care environment.
  • Abides by a professional code of ethics.
  • Functions in the capacity of Linguistic Services Coordinator as needed.
  • Receives requests from providers, processes and arranges interpreter services.
  • Triages and prioritizes scheduling requests for service according to established protocols.
  • Deploys staff interpreters and arranges for vendor interpreters to fill requests.
  • Coordinates interpreter assignments for TUH, Episcopal, TUP, Jeanes, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and TPI.
  • Assists with training and coaching of new professional medical interpreters and dual role medical interpreters.
