About The Position

This is a Secondary Teacher of Spanish/Portuguese at the East Providence High School. Under the direction of the Principal and/or Designee, the teacher shall be the educational leader in his/her classroom and shall be responsible for the education of the youth placed in his/her charge.

Responsibilities

  • Be the educational leader in his/her classroom and demonstrate the necessary skills to create an atmosphere and environment favorable to learning and development.
  • Be responsible for the improvement and enrichment of instruction in the classroom.
  • Act as a guidance teacher at all times.
  • Encourage child-parent-teacher communication to better promote instruction.
  • Endeavor to attain the highest professional development possible through a continuing program of teacher education.
  • Conscientiously apply him/herself in attempting to follow the federal guidelines adopted by the Department in regard to methods of instruction.
  • Cooperate with the principal, department head, and fellow teachers in all academic matters, contributing to the solution of educational problems.
  • Identify individual differences and strive to adjust educational practices to meet these needs, calling on a specialist when help is desired.
  • Administer mental ability tests, achievement tests, and other department-authorized tests in a prescribed and standardized manner.
  • Exercise professional discretion regarding test results and use them to improve classroom instruction.
  • Work to improve the testing program through personal observations, constructive criticisms, and suggestions to the immediate superior.
  • Attend all meetings called by the principal and department head and contribute to discussions.
  • Associate with professional organizations related to the specific area of instruction or interest.
  • Cooperate with the school in all programs that contribute to good public relations within the community.
  • Identify unusual talents in the classroom as early as possible and encourage these talents.
  • Stay abreast of all general educational practices in all grades (K-12) in the school system.
  • Cooperate with the school principal in completing inventories, making budgets, library orderings, and other reports.
  • Cultivate and promote good health habits – physical, mental, and emotional – for him/herself and students.
  • Cooperate with all special teachers in their programs of physical education, art, and music.
  • Encourage and participate in extracurricular activities designed to promote and broaden student experiences.
  • Have general supervision of the classroom and cooperate with the principal in providing supervision elsewhere as necessary.
  • Cooperate with the principal in keeping all prescribed school records.
  • Fulfill all fire drill requirements issued by the principal.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations relating to school functions.
  • Give daily attention to the safety education of pupils.
