Apply today. Banner University Medical Center is seeking a Spanish Medical Interpreter to join our team! As a Medical Interpreter with Banner University Medical Center- Phoenix, you will be an important part of the healthcare team, providing English/Spanish interpretation services for patients/companions with limited English proficiency that we encounter throughout the hospital, including patient/provider communication. You will be involved during every aspect of the patient stay, from registration to discharge. Effective communications skills and knowledge of medical terminology is required. We have two shifts available: Part time evening shift; Wednesdays 3p-1130p, Thursdays 3p-1130p, Fridays 7p-330a, Saturdays 7p-330a Full time day shift: Thursdays 630a-3p, Every other Friday 630a-3p, Saturdays 630a-3p You will enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential as well as an 18% Night shift differential where applicable! POSITION SUMMARY This position provides interpretation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and their families. This position acts as a neutral party in the role as a conduit of information between healthcare providers and patients and families.

Requirements

Must possess a level of knowledge typically acquired through the completion of an associate's degree in communications or health care related field or equivalent experience.
Requires fluency in English and target language of interpretation and a proficiency level typically achieved with 1 year of experience as an interpreter.
Requires an understanding of medical terminology.
Effective 9/1/2019, all new hires or transfers into the role must pass a written and oral exam with a score of 75% or above.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills, problem solving, strong human relations skills, organizational and time management skills and flexibility in responding to multiple demands.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in communications or health care related field.
Completion of a medical interpreter skills training course including learning the code of ethics and standards of practice.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Acts as a conduit of information for all clinical services including medical terminology and support services, policies and procedures to LEP patients.
Interprets patient and/or family questions or concerns to appropriate healthcare staff to optimize the patient care experience.
Documents accurately, completely and clearly all interpretation services.
Serves as a cultural mediator, as necessary and when appropriate, to enhance communication between patients/family, as it relates to medical care.
Acts as a neutral party in the role as a conduit of information between health care staff and patients and families. Confers with supervisor on any unusual situations.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
