About The Position

To facilitate culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency(LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in providing medical interpreting in English and the target language.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms.
• Strong ability to interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, and preventive care.
• Culturally competent.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, their families and health care providers.
• Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience.
• Experience at a Level I Trauma Center.
• Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in a related field.
• Professional Medical Interpreter Program.
• Formal interpreter training.
• 40-hour medical interpretation training program.
• CCHI or NBCMI Certification.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate communication between LEP individuals and medical providers.
• Promote patient safety and confidentiality.
• Perform written translation of materials such as forms, documents, and patient letters.
• Travel between locations during shift as required.
