Spanish Interpreter (Simultaneous) - Court-Certified
About The Position
Prisma International, Inc. (Prisma) is a language services provider seeking experienced Court-Certified Spanish Interpreters to join their team of independent contractors. The role involves providing simultaneous and/or consecutive onsite or video remote interpretation services to Prisma clients in California. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in specialized topics such as legal matters, water board hearings, science, engineering, and health. The interpreter will be responsible for effective review of background documents, using virtual interpretation tools, operating specialized equipment, maintaining professional communication, and adhering to ethical standards.
Requirements
- Court-certified in California or U.S. Federal Courts (copy of certification required).
- Full fluency in English and Spanish.
- Two years of onsite/video remote simultaneous interpreting experience.
- Three professional references who can confirm your status as a court-certified interpreter.
- Trained or accredited through a higher education institution.
- Minimum age: 18+ years or older.
- Minimum education: High School Diploma.

- Experience interpreting specialized topics: legal matters, water board hearings, science, engineering, and health.
Responsibilities
- Provide simultaneous and consecutive onsite & video remote Spanish interpretation for non-English speakers with a state government representative.
- Review and understand all necessary background documents prior to assignments.
- Use virtual interpretation tools (e.g., Zoom).
- Use tabletop sound booths, interpreter control units, FM transmitters, and headset/receivers.
- Maintain polite forms of expression, clear enunciation, and a high-level of customer service.
- Ensure correct concepts and meanings are conveyed between the speaker and the Limited English Proficient (LEP) speaker.
- Ensure correct grammar, clarity, and tone between Spanish and English.
- Follow the speaker’s direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of a conversation.
- Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP.
- Maintain a professional appearance, polite demeanor, and punctuality.
- Comply with applicable ethics and standards.
