About The Position

Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Spacesuit Technologist for supporting the Orion Crew Survival Systems (OCSS) project. This position is an immediate need to join Nexus, a teammate company. The Spacesuit Technologist will focus on understanding the theory and operation of OCSS hardware, cleaning requirements, maintenance, handling, and safety. They will be responsible for setting up support equipment prior to Test, assisting existing OCSS Suit Engineering Technologists during Fitcheck and testing, and progressing through necessary training to become proficient at Fitchecks/Crew Training events and eventually Orion Vehicle Ingress/Egress Operations. This role also involves participating in all pre/post event briefings, supporting the Crew Survival Equipment lab schedule, and participating and supporting in Suit Test Subject and Crew training exercises. Additionally, the technologist will gain an understanding of Ground Support Hardware theory and operation, provide required Work Authorizing Documentation, follow project documentation, and support drawing construction, ensuring project requirements are achieved. The role includes supporting testing of OCSS hardware such as the Orion Crew Survival Suit, Emergency Breathing Oxygen Systems, Pressure Systems, and Survival Equipment, as well as supporting the buildup of Ground Service Equipment and periodic re-calibration. The technologist will assist project management and Project Engineers with OCSS Qualification testing and Pre-Delivery/Installation Acceptance Testing. This position requires working in a team environment, reporting to project management to provide status on progress and issues related to supporting the OCSS NASA customer, and performing other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a HS diploma and 5 years of experience or BS in Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Experience with reviewing and following requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria.
  • Experience with the assembly, verification, testing, and operation of Space system hardware.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field including interpreting engineering drawings and sketches, JSC Electronic Document System and software and tools.
  • Ability to support long (all day) training events with long periods of time on feet and moderate lifting of hardware.
  • Ability to physically meet the JSC Job Related Medical Physical Pressure Suit Technician/Hazardous Duty Launch and Landing Requirements.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with NASA flight processes including Class I/II/III hardware.
  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in pressure, oxygen systems, suit systems would be considered a plus.
  • Previous experience in assembly and test of spaceflight hardware and Spacesuit systems.
  • Familiarity with machine shop techniques and processing hardware through the manufacturing process.
  • Ability to perform hands on test and documentation including Work Authorizing Documents/Test Preparation sheets.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities
