Spacecraft Power Systems Test Engineer

ALTECH SOLUTIONS, LLC•Pasadena, CA
•$105,000 - $169,000•Onsite

About The Position

Altech Solutions is hiring two Spacecraft Power Systems Test Engineers to work on-site in Pasadena, CA. You will work as an embedded member of a spacecraft power subsystem team, supporting integration and test (I&T) of flight power hardware and building the Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) used to test it. The work runs from test hardware and software development through flight hardware testing and delivery. We want someone who takes ownership of a problem and drives it to closure with minimal oversight.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with relevant hands-on experience.
  • Strong circuit fundamentals and comfort at the bench: safely powering up unfamiliar hardware, setting up a measurement, and debugging to root cause.
  • Working knowledge of power electronics (converters, batteries, power distribution, solar array interfaces), enough to design meaningful tests and interpret the results.
  • Ability to script instrument control and test automation, preferably in Python.
  • Disciplined test documentation habits and comfort working in a formal, procedure-driven flight hardware environment.
  • A track record of taking on ambiguous problems on your own and delivering.
  • Comfort troubleshooting and debugging both flight hardware and ground support equipment.
  • U.S. citizenship is required. This is a firm requirement of the work. Green card holders and visa holders are not eligible, and we cannot sponsor.
  • 100% on-site in Pasadena, CA, every workday. No remote or hybrid option. Local candidates only; no relocation assistance.
  • Background check and drug screen. You must pass both before your start date.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Spacecraft power or flight hardware I&T experience
  • EGSE or test station development
  • Environmental test campaign experience
  • PCB and harness design, including Altium layout
  • Significant experience in test automation and scripting

Responsibilities

  • Plan and run power subsystem test campaigns end to end: test objectives and sequencing, EGSE readiness, procedure development, execution, and delivery of verification evidence. Strong candidates will own the campaign; at minimum you will be a core part of planning and running it.
  • Build and check out power EGSE: custom electronics, breakout boxes, and harnessing, and integrate commercial instruments (sources, loads, simulators) into working test stations.
  • Automate test stations and instrument control in Python or a similar language.
  • Perform hands-on I&T of flight power hardware from board level through subsystem delivery, including first power-on and functional and performance testing.
  • Write and execute test procedures; keep accurate as-run records and test data packages.
  • Investigate anomalies: isolate faults, analyze data, and drive to root cause and resolution.
  • Coordinate with design engineers, I&T leadership, and vendors; report status, risks, and results.

Benefits

  • Full-time W2 employee of Altech Solutions, with benefits
