About The Position

ASRC Federal System Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is seeking a Spacecraft Engineer to support our Prime program supporting the Naval Research Lab Blossom Point Tracking Facility in Welcome, MD. The Spacecraft Engineer (SE) is responsible for verifying the health and safety of on-orbit spacecraft as well as the functionality of the ground system. The SE will review and analyze logs, trends, and other tools utilized in a fully automated command and control system. The role involves performing anomaly investigation and resolution of spacecraft and ground faults, creating, modifying, and maintaining software scripts and procedures used in automated satellite tracking and monitoring, and interfacing with customers. The SE will work closely with spacecraft owners and obtain approval before any changes to the architecture to ensure no faults are introduced into the spacecraft. They will also work with factories and software teams through all stages of spacecraft life and participate in testing new versions of the command and control software. Recommendations for system improvements to enhance performance, reduce labor hours, or streamline processes will be made to the technical staff and Station Manager. The position requires serving as part of an on-call team and responding to critical errors at any time of the day.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.
0-2 years experience in the command and control of satellites or equivalent experience.
Experience with Linux or similar operating systems.
Knowledge of industry practices, techniques, standards and proficiency in high-level languages programming.
Experience writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, Python, etc.).
Experience working with databases (examples: Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, etc.).
Understanding of networking technology, TCP/IP and common internet application protocols.
Excellent troubleshooting skills.
Must have an active Secret clearance, and the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the resolution of technical problems and the development of systems for use in spacecraft communication is desirable.
Previous experience providing engineering in satellite ground station and instrument control systems.
Experience relevant to satellite communication systems is especially desirable.

Responsibilities

Verify the health and safety of on-orbit spacecraft.
Verify the functionality of the ground system.
