About The Position

ASRC Federal System Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is seeking a Spacecraft Engineer to support our Prime program supporting the Naval Research Lab Blossom Point Tracking Facility in Welcome, MD. This role involves verifying the health and safety of on-orbit spacecraft and the functionality of the ground system. The engineer will analyze logs, trends, and other tools within an automated command and control system, perform anomaly investigations, and resolve spacecraft and ground faults. Responsibilities include creating, modifying, and maintaining software scripts and procedures for automated satellite tracking and monitoring, interfacing with customers, and collaborating with spacecraft owners to ensure architectural changes do not introduce faults. The role also involves working with factories and software teams throughout the spacecraft lifecycle, participating in command and control software testing, and recommending system improvements to the technical staff and Station Manager. Additionally, the engineer will serve as part of an on-call team to respond to critical errors at any time.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline
0-2 years experience in the command and control of satellites or the equivalent experience
Experience with Linux or similar operating systems
Knowledge of industry practices, techniques, standards and proficiency high level languages programing
Experience writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, Python, etc.)
Experience working with databases (examples: Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, etc.)
Understanding of networking technology, TCP/IP and common internet application protocols
Excellent troubleshooting skills
Must have an active Secret clearance, and the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance

Nice To Haves

Experience in the resolution of technical problems and the development of systems for use in spacecraft communication is desirable
Previous experience providing engineering in satellite ground station and instrument control systems
Experience relevant to satellite communication systems is especially desirable

Responsibilities

Verifying the health and safety of on orbit spacecraft
Verifying the functionality of the ground system
Reviewing and analyzing logs, trends and other tools utilized in a fully automated command and control system
Performing anomaly investigation and resolution of spacecraft and ground faults
Creating, modifying and maintaining software scripts and procedures used in automated satellite tracking and monitoring
Interfacing with customers
Working closely with the spacecraft owners and getting approval prior to any changes in the architecture to make sure faults do not get introduced into the spacecraft
Working with the factories and software teams through all stages of spacecraft life
Participating in the testing of new versions of the command and control software
Recommending to the technical staff and Station Manager any changes that can make the system perform better or reduce labor hours or streamline the process
Serving as part of an on call team and responding to critical errors at any time of the day
