About The Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a Release Planner to join the MUOS team. This role involves working with a cross-functional team responsible for the oversight of development and test planning activities for a satellite communications systems release. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, and 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience. Agile experience is preferred. A Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred, and candidates must be able to obtain one within a reasonable amount of time. U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work. The role can be fully on-site or hybrid (three days on-site, two days remote) in Scottsdale, AZ. The estimated salary range is $130,617.00 - $144,903.00 per year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field
  • 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire
  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Track record for successfully planning, testing and releasing large software releases on schedule
  • Experience setting up milestones, determine communication plan and top level release development schedule
  • Creative thinker motivated to apply technical standards and methodologies to develop solutions
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to provide technical leadership and position others for success
  • Experience running internal and customer Failure Review Control Board (FRCB) meetings
  • Strong presentation and communications skills with experience in the art of negotiation and the ability to meet challenging customer requirements with win-win solutions
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others

Responsibilities

  • Participating in the development of specific current release content objectives as part of a longer term Increment Planning activity
  • Understanding the release content objective impacts on each of the contributing development teams
  • Developing a high-level understanding of system functionality in order to validate and communicate impacts to Configuration Items
  • Setting up milestones, determine communication plan and top level release development schedule
  • Overseeing the execution of the development and testing of a release across the multiple contributing teams by: coordinating, progress tracking, cross-team communication
  • Ensuring development schedules align for efficient use of system level lab testing / integration resources
  • Working with other System Engineers to ensure alignment and adequacy of test planning in order to help guarantee smooth System Test entry and execution
  • Interacting with program management and development leads to coordinate, negotiate, and update priorities as needed
  • Tracking and drive resolution when teams are running into progress issues or aren’t communicating effectively
  • Communicating release development status in monthly reviews
  • Communicating release content scope with deployment team and support their planning activities
  • Helping identify process holes for lessons-learned improvement opportunities
