The Refrigeration Systems Specialist is a key member of the Facilities Maintenance team, focused on the performance, reliability, automation, and environmental efficiency of refrigeration and HVAC systems across the site. This role is hands-on and improvement‑oriented, supporting day-to-day operations while helping identify and implement upgrades that enhance system effectiveness, sustainability, and compliance.

Requirements

  • University degree in a technical or scientific discipline related to building systems, mechanical systems, energy, or industrial environments. (Recent graduates or candidates early in their careers are encouraged to apply.)
  • Approximately 2 years of professional experience involving refrigeration, HVAC, utilities, facilities, or industrial systems.
  • Foundational understanding of refrigeration principles and HVAC systems, with exposure to at least one common refrigerant (e.g. NH3, CO₂, R134a, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with cold glycol systems operating across a wide temperature range (‑25 °C to +5 °C and above), and exposure to refrigeration and freezing equipment such as evaporators, compressors, and defrost systems.
  • Interest in developing deeper expertise in industrial refrigeration, HVAC performance, automation, and environmentally responsible solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset, with the ability to understand systems, identify improvement opportunities, and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Comfortable working close to the field while collaborating with maintenance, operations, and external contractors.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, learning agility, and motivation to build a long‑term career within facilities and infrastructure systems.
  • Able to communicate clearly in both French and English.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to regulated or industrial environments (manufacturing, biotech, food, chemical, etc.) is an asset; GMP knowledge is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the operation, optimization, and continuous improvement of refrigeration and HVAC systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system effectiveness, energy efficiency, and environmental impact, and participate in implementing upgrades or enhancements.
  • Work closely with the Facilities Maintenance technicians, cross-functional teams and external partners to address daily operational issues and system improvements.
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration and HVAC system challenges and develop practical, long-term solutions.
  • Support the installation, modification, and commissioning of new or upgraded refrigeration, HVAC, and related automation systems.
  • Assist with system automation, monitoring, and controls to improve reliability, visibility, and proactive maintenance.
  • Ensure systems operate in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, including GMP requirements where relevant.
  • Contribute to documentation, standard operating procedures, and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Share knowledge and support skill development within the maintenance team as needed.
