Sow Farm Associate
About The Position
Belstra Group Farms, a pig production organization with more than 20 swine farm facilities in Northwest Indiana, is hiring full-time Sow Farm Associates. The role is responsible for the daily care, health, and maintenance of animals at an assigned farm. The associate must comply with company policies and applicable local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations. The position involves caring for sows, gilts, and piglets; monitoring animal health and assisting with breeding and farrowing; moving pigs between barns; and maintaining farm cleanliness. Associates are expected to follow the company's Animal Welfare Policy and PPE safety guidelines and work cooperatively with farm staff.
Requirements
- Analytical skills to monitor and assess herd health.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with other team members.
- Ability to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, and frequently noisy conditions.
- Ability to multitask.
- Must have a method of transportation to get to work.
- Must be able to print and/or write legibly.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to stand, walk, and be on one's feet for 8 to 10 hours per day.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, squat, and kneel.
- Ability to frequently use one or both hands or arms to grasp or pull, including operating a power washer with 3000 psi force and a flow rate of 5 gallons per minute.
- Ability to frequently lift objects weighing 3 to 20 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally bend while pulling or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move.
- Ability to work in different environments, including dust, heat, and cold.

- Previous pig production experience.
Responsibilities
- Feed sows and gilts.
- Observe animals for signs of illness and administer medication when necessary.
- Assist with treatments, vaccinations, and pig care.
- Care for and handle sows and piglets.
- Monitor and assist sows during the farrowing process.
- Learn to safely and properly move pigs of different sizes to different barns.
- Perform artificial insemination or other breeding duties.
- Maintain farm cleanliness by power washing designated areas.
- Follow the Belstra Group Farms Animal Welfare Policy and proper PPE safety guidelines.
- Show leadership and cooperate with the rest of the farm staff.
- Comply with company policies and applicable local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations.
