About The Position

Bon Appétit Management Company is hiring a seasonal Sous Chef at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Sous Chef helps the Executive Chef prepare and cook food, coordinates the activities of cooks and other food-service associates, and assumes responsibility for kitchen and food-service associates when the Executive Chef is absent. The role is scheduled Thursday through Monday, with hours that may vary. The stated pay range is $35.00 to $37.00 per hour.

Requirements

Two years of high-volume supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

Cook and prepare food according to approved recipes and production standards, meeting deadlines based on production orders.
Supervise hourly food-service associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews, and recommending disciplinary action as appropriate.
Store food in designated areas and follow corporate, state, and federal food-safety and sanitation procedures.
Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures.
Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils; thoroughly clean the workstation before leaving and keep display equipment clean during meal service.
Interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner and relay relevant information to the supervisor.
Understand daily menu items and accurately explain them to associates and customers.
Keep up with peak production and service hours.
Monitor product and supply inventory and deliveries; track production, consumption, and waste; inform the supervisor when supplies or product are low.
Perform other duties as assigned.
