About The Position

The Purchasing and Inventory Specialist is responsible for all purchasing and inventory functions at Great Northern Baking Company. We are looking for an individual who is committed to controlling costs and ensuring the accuracy of all information related to purchasing and inventory. The Inventory Specialist will report to the Production Manager. For almost 30 years, Great Northern Baking Company has been a small, made-from-scratch bakery in NE Minneapolis. We take great pride in providing the best value in wholesale and retail packaged baked goods while delivering great quality whole grain products. All of our products are tested by our in-house research and development team, led by nationally recognized Pastry Chef Michelle Gayer, as well as shared with groups around the community to get real, honest feedback. We test recipes, source the highest quality ingredients, measure consistency in our baking process and have high standards for food safety. Ultimately, we can take care of our customers.

Requirements

5 years minimum of purchasing and inventory experience in food or a perishable commodity
Strong attention to detail
Ability to focus on multiple issues simultaneously
Ability to work and make decisions independently
Strong technical computer skills
Strong leadership, organization, customer service, and communication skills
Ability to pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities

Ensures inventory and cost of raw materials are accurate in FlexiBake -- responsible for entire purchasing and inventory process
Creates purchase orders, receives, and verifies costs within FlexiBake
Troubleshoots inventory issues and communicates with production any relevant issues
Inventory on hand not to exceed 10 days except for special order items.
No ingredient shortages without determining there is no suitable back-up.
Receiving accuracy, such as all invoices received and entered within two weeks.
Cost control -- weekly communication on price variances more than 3%.
Monitors fluctuations in product cost and acts and communicates accordingly
Works with vendors to always ensure best possible pricing
Conducts weekly inventory of all raw materials
Sourcing and securing truckloads of raw materials when appropriate
Works on production scheduling with the Production Manager
Continuous improvement
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
