About The Position

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the SOS San Diego team as the SOS Engagement Specialist. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your compassionate trauma-informed human relational skills and cultural, linguistic communication and caring experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The SOS Engagement Specialist plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency by promoting program participants’ dignity, independence, connection, and access to essential services. This position reports directly to the SOS Program Manager and works closely with other Supporting Our Survivors team members and the rest of the JFS teams.

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency required; Russian language proficiency strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and client-service skills.
  • High importance to pay attention to detail and follow through on tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation in client database.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, family members, service providers, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a clean driving record.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Dependable, clean and accessible transportation that can be used to transport clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices related to the experiences and needs of Holocaust survivors.
  • Experience working with older adults, particularly individuals who have experienced trauma or who live with post-traumatic stress.
  • Significant familiarity with Jewish history, traditions, and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the assigned Care Manager to implement each client’s care plan.
  • Support multiple clients and projects while maintaining organized and timely follow-through.
  • Assist clients with translation, scheduling and preparing for medical appointments.
  • Accompany clients to medical appointments and advocate/translate as appropriate for changing needs.
  • Serve as a liaison among clients, family members, medical providers, hospitals, home-care agencies, caregivers, volunteers, and other individuals involved in the client’s care plan.
  • Notify the primary Care Manager of changes in a client’s needs or condition as soon as possible.
  • Help clients organize paperwork, pay bills, complete forms, and apply for public benefits.
  • Coordinate transportation and assist clients with attending social gatherings, appointments, and community activities.
  • Provide social interaction and engagement consistent with the client’s established care plan.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, referrals, service updates, and mandatory reports, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Submit timesheets and mileage-reimbursement documentation within established deadlines.
  • Provide services that contribute to positive client-satisfaction results.
  • Interact with clients in a professional, respectful, culturally responsive, and sensitive manner that promotes client dignity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
