About The Position

The Sorter ensures materials are properly placed and sorted on a conveyor line. The role involves sorting and handling materials, maintaining a clean work area, monitoring equipment, following operating procedures, and reporting safety concerns or equipment malfunctions. The position operates in both indoor garage, shop, or gas plant conditions and outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. It is designated safety-sensitive and requires strict compliance with safety rules and protocols. Drug and alcohol testing may be required during employment in accordance with government regulations and company policies.

Requirements

• Ability to comply strictly with safety rules and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Inspect materials and sort items into piles or containers according to type, size, condition, coloring, or paper grade.
• Pull contaminants out of paper or off the floor.
• Stack boxes and skids.
• Dump boxes and totes of material.
• Feed material, such as wastepaper, onto the conveyor.
• Clean the conveyor and surrounding sorting line, and keep the work area clean.
• Read the monitor for machine startup and ensure the machine is operating properly and at a moderate speed.
• Follow standard operating procedures for operating and maintaining equipment.
• Report worker-public safety factors and equipment malfunctions.
• Attend weekly or monthly safety and operations meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
