About The Position

The Sorter is responsible for properly placing and sorting materials on a conveyor line. The role involves inspecting materials, removing contaminants, stacking and dumping materials, feeding wastepaper onto conveyors, and keeping the sorting line and surrounding work area clean. The Sorter also monitors equipment operation, follows standard operating procedures, reports safety concerns or equipment malfunctions, and attends safety and operations meetings. This safety-sensitive position operates in indoor and outdoor conditions, including inclement weather, heat, and humidity.

Requirements

• No experience required.
• Strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols.
• May be subject to drug and alcohol testing as an ongoing employment requirement.

Responsibilities

• Inspect materials and sort them into piles or containers according to type, size, condition, coloring, or paper grade.
• Pull contaminants out of paper or off the floor.
• Stack boxes and skids.
• Dump boxes and totes of material.
• Feed material, such as wastepaper, onto the conveyor.
• Clean the conveyor and surrounding sorting line, and keep the work area clean.
• Read the monitor during machine start-up and ensure the machine operates properly at a moderate speed.
• Follow standard operating procedures for operating and maintaining equipment.
• Report worker-public safety factors and equipment malfunctions.
• Attend weekly or monthly safety and operations meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
