About The Position

GreenWaste is seeking a Sorter to support its location at 4201 Florin Perkins Road in Sacramento, California. The role sorts recyclable materials and trash to minimize contamination and maintain high recycling rates. Depending on the operation’s location, the work may be indoors or outdoors and requires sorting materials from a conveyor belt in a fast-paced facility. Shifts vary, and a regular workday may last 4–12 hours depending on daily tonnage. Overtime is required.

GreenWaste has operated in recycling and waste diversion for more than 40 years. The company works with more than 20 municipalities and 50 jurisdictions, operates regulated facilities in more than 10 locations, and has more than 1,000 employees.

Requirements

• Proof of authorization to be employed in the United States.
• Proficiency in English and/or Spanish.
• Ability to distinguish between commodities and sort materials properly.
• Reliable transportation, punctuality, and reliability.
• Ability to work as part of a team and work well with others.
• Ability to handle material weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, and grasp materials constantly.
• Ability to go up and down stairs to reach workstations.
• Ability to stand and collect material for extended periods using both hands, with good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to work overtime.

Responsibilities

• Follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
• Depending on the operation’s location, extract at least 25–48 items per minute to maximize recycling potential.
• Follow directions, daily procedures, and protocols.
• Work near others and sort materials from either side of the conveyor belt to increase productivity.
• Stand for extended periods in front of a conveyor belt and use both hands to sort materials.
• Handle and transport materials and equipment.
• Perform other assigned duties and assist with onsite projects, including litter control, routine maintenance, and facility housekeeping.
• Sort materials to prevent contamination and maintain high recyclable rates.
