About The Position

Nebraska Methodist Health System is seeking a Sonographer to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. This full-time position involves an evening shift from Monday to Friday, 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, with a 10% shift differential. The role also includes an on-call requirement at Methodist Hospital. Requirements

  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered or board eligible required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound Technology program required.
  • Participation in mandatory inservices and continuing education as mandated by policies & procedures, and as directed by supervisors.
  • One year general and vascular Sonography preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography registered or board eligible required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential is required within one year of employment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients and family members as well as hospital personnel and coworkers required.
  • Ability to effectively organize work in order to perform several tasks at once required.
  • Must be able to follow established Universal Standard and Radiation Safety precautions.
  • Position requires flexibility to accommodate fluctuation in daily schedule, including but not limited to overtime, irregular hours or on-call responsibilities.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force (Medium Work).

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential of the Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures.
  • Identifies each patient by ID band verification and birth date, and ensures patient understanding of the pending procedure.
  • Covers appropriate body parts and positions patients correctly, following appropriate guidelines and departmental protocols.
  • Performs exams as priority dictates and as directed, critiquing each exam for technical and positional accuracy and making necessary corrections.
  • Follows American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines.
  • Checks all films with a Radiologist and discusses end results.
  • Reviews orders for clinical and demographic consistency and verifies accuracy prior to the exam.
  • Assists physicians, patients, and coworkers as needed and seeks opportunities to provide patient care.
  • Understands and supports the direction and workflow of the department, maintaining awareness of ongoing exams and assisting coworkers.
  • Provides exam information and status updates to pertinent staff members and relieves coworkers from procedures/exams as necessary.
  • Is in the department and ready to work at the start of the scheduled shift and has processes in place to allow for leaving at the end of the scheduled shift.
  • Obtains and consolidates all images, reports, and history with completed exam information for review.
  • Takes call and coordinates inpatient procedure flow (Hospital Only).
  • Provides management of ultrasound department workflow and patient exam flow.
  • Is willing and able to fill in shifts or trade days when needed at any time.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Cerner, starting and completing own exams correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Consistently uses the Online Worklist to monitor orders and order status and verifies correct images matched with orders.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of RIS/PACS/Navicare/Outlook/Angel/mhsintranet/Nighthawk.
  • Consistently uses Exam Management for order modification, to document comments, and film usage/repeats.
  • Shows a working knowledge of Folder Media and Order View/Entry capabilities.
  • Consistently uses Film Tracking to document the movement of films throughout their usage.
  • Maintains working knowledge of Outlook and mhsintranet.
  • Able to perform clean-up functions on PACS workstation.
  • Maintains working knowledge of Navicare and Nighthawk.
  • Ensures proper patient identification on all images to comply with department policies and procedures.
  • Willingly seeks opportunities to provide patient care or assist others as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of department guidelines through responsible behavior/actions.
  • Maintains an updated ARDMS license.
  • Ensures that call reports and/or other specifications are followed through.
  • Reports issues/concerns as soon as possible and provides assistance with resolution/follow-up.
  • Provides and monitors “on the job training” per Methodist College standards.
  • Maintains a professional and courteous relationship with students and instructors.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for students' clinical experience.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality coinciding with HIPAA and student/co-worker confidentiality coinciding with FERPA.
  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment.
  • Shows confidence and competency in all age-specific categories.
  • Ensures patient comfort and understanding of ordered exams.
  • Completes age-specific evaluations.
  • Provides care for the optimal patient experience.
  • Actively participates to perfect customer service and communication by building a great team system.
  • Talks to others to convey information effectively with respect, empathy, and compassion.
  • Gives full attention to what other people are saying, asking questions as appropriate to better understand what is happening.
