About The Position

Performs a variety of routine diagnostic ultrasound procedures at a general skill level. This role involves performing various ultrasound techniques and examinations, scheduling cases, positioning and transferring patients, selecting technical factors and operating equipment, maintaining equipment, preparing documentation, and utilizing digital image storage systems. Additionally, for the WellSpan Medical Group, the Sonographer directs patients to rooms and obtains vital signs. The role also requires demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the patient lifespan, assessing and interpreting age-specific data, providing direct patient care, and maintaining a commitment to safety and quality standards. The Sonographer also enhances professional growth, maintains records, provides excellent customer service, and may supervise students.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Less than 1 year Relevant experience.
Basic Life Support Upon Hire

Responsibilities

Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations such as, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecological scans, small parts and neonatal head scans, vascular scans, and assist with interventional procedures.
Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedure.
Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
Selects and operates equipment as needed to perform required exams.
Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
Knowledge and use of digital image storage systems such as PACS.
Directs patients to rooms and obtain vitals of patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment.
Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.

Secures and returns supplies such as film, linens, medicine, patient folders.
