Senior Solution Owner (Data, Technology & AI)

CompassX GroupLos Angeles, CA
$130,000 - $180,000Hybrid

About The Position

CompassX is seeking a Solution Owner (Data, Technology & AI) to serve as the primary client-facing representative for the firm on a significant and high-profile client engagement. This role goes beyond traditional Project Management, requiring the individual to engage with client executives from the initial problem definition through solution design, build, and adoption. The Solution Owner will be responsible for shaping the solution itself, rather than merely overseeing its delivery timeline. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of consulting-level client presence, leadership capabilities, strong solution design and architectural acumen, and sufficient technical understanding of data and AI to ensure the appropriateness of proposed approaches.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience spanning consulting, product ownership, and/or solution design, preferably with time at a reputable consulting firm.
  • Proven track record as a trusted senior presence with executive clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in shaping or designing a solution (architecture, process, or product), not solely managing delivery.
  • Working knowledge of data and AI environments, including pipelines, analytics, model evaluation, or modern data architecture.
  • Strong executive communication and consensus-building skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Delivery mechanics (e.g., scrum-master, backlog management) are considered a 'nice to have', not the core of the job.
  • Ideally based in Southern California (LA/OC area), though exceptional candidates elsewhere in the US will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary, trusted face of CompassX to senior client stakeholders, building credibility to be involved in early-stage problem definition.
  • Lead executive-level discussions to transform ambiguous business challenges into clear, actionable solution directions.
  • Build consensus among stakeholder groups with competing priorities and navigate organizational dynamics effectively.
  • Own the design of the solution, including shaping the approach, validating it technically, and defending it.
  • Partner with architects, engineers, and data/AI practitioners to ensure the technical approach is sound while maintaining accountability for the overall solution.
  • Drive process improvement and 'ways of working' recommendations as integral parts of the solution.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of data and AI use cases, discussing data pipelines, model approaches, and modern architecture.
  • Provide a perspective on the value of AI in solutions and its appropriate application.
  • Utilize AI in personal working methods for research, synthesis, and solutioning.
  • Ensure workstream credibility through fluency in delivery fundamentals like Agile, UAT, and data validation, with support from specialists.

Benefits

  • Salaried position with bonus eligibility or hourly contract engagement (including 1099 independent contractor arrangements).
  • Opportunity to find one's own path and see the impact of their work.
  • Freedom to shape client work and maintain a direct line to leadership.
  • Focus on serving local Southern California clients.
  • Recognition as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For.
  • Previous recognition as a “Best Place to Work” in Southern California.
  • Recognition as one of INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.
