Senior Solution Owner (Data, Technology & AI)

CompassX GroupLos Angeles, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm that helps Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver strategic initiatives, including enterprise transformations and digital/data-driven projects. With over 15 years of experience across various industries, CompassX has been recognized as a top employer. We are seeking a Solution Owner (Data, Technology & AI) to serve as the primary client contact for a significant engagement. This role requires a blend of consulting leadership, solution design, and technical fluency in data and AI. The ideal candidate will engage with client executives from the initial problem definition through design, build, and adoption, shaping the solution rather than just managing project timelines. While local candidates in Southern California are preferred, exceptional candidates nationwide will be considered.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience spanning consulting, product ownership, and/or solution design, ideally with time at a reputable consulting firm.
  • A track record of serving as a trusted senior presence with executive clients, not just a workstream coordinator.
  • Real experience shaping or designing a solution (architecture, process, or product), not solely managing its delivery.
  • Working knowledge of data and AI environments, including pipelines, analytics, model evaluation, or modern data architecture.
  • Strong executive communication and consensus-building skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Ideally based in Southern California.

Nice To Haves

  • Delivery mechanics are a 'nice to have,' not the core job; this is not a scrum-master or backlog-management role.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary, trusted face of CompassX to senior client stakeholders, building credibility to engage in early-stage problem definition.
  • Lead executive-level conversations to translate ambiguous business challenges into clear, actionable solution directions.
  • Build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups with competing priorities and navigate organizational dynamics effectively.
  • Own the design of the solution, shaping the approach, validating it technically, and defending it under scrutiny.
  • Partner with architects, engineers, and data/AI practitioners to ensure the technical approach is sound while maintaining accountability for the overall solution.
  • Drive process improvement and 'ways of working' recommendations as integral parts of the solution.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of data and AI use cases, discussing data pipelines, model approaches, and modern architecture credibly.
  • Provide a point of view on where AI adds genuine value to a solution and where it does not.
  • Utilize AI tools in personal working style for research, synthesis, and solutioning.
  • Support delivery efforts by demonstrating fluency in fundamentals like Agile, UAT, and data validation, with assistance from delivery specialists.

Benefits

  • Salaried position with bonus eligibility or hourly contract engagement (including 1099 independent contractor arrangements).
  • Opportunity to see the impact of work and have a voice within a smaller firm.
  • Freedom to shape client work and maintain a direct line to leadership.
  • Focus on serving local Southern California clients, allowing consultants to see results in their communities.
