As a Solutions Architect within PNC's Technology organization, you can be based in Pittsburgh PA, Cleveland OH, Phoenix AZ or Denver CO. The Solution Architect is responsible for designing end-to-end technology solutions that align with business objectives, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and integration across enterprise platforms. This role bridges business needs and technical execution, guiding engineering teams and influencing architecture decisions across multiple systems. PNC will not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT for this position. Develops solution architecture and resolves complex issues in a variety of projects through the implementation of requirements analysis, expertise support and project supervision. Designs solution architecture in large or complex programs, including system and application designs, software and technical architecture, in accordance with strategies and objectives. Provides expertise for the solution architecture team and other IT staff on a variety of issues in software designs, system architecture and solution-oriented technologies. Communicates with clients and analyses business requirements and processes; makes recommendations, and leads in shaping future plans in solution architecture. Oversees solution architecture project outcomes, including hardware and software design; ensures that each project phase meets overall requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems architecture, or solution design preferred
  • Proven experience designing enterprise-scale applications and distributed systems
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Deep knowledge of APIs, microservices, and integration patterns
  • Experience with security, compliance, and regulatory frameworks
  • Bachelors
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems architecture, or solution design

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF)
  • Experience in financial services or highly regulated industries

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across applications, data, and infrastructure
  • Translate business requirements into architectural blueprints and technical specifications
  • Define integration patterns across enterprise systems, APIs, and third-party platforms
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and roadmaps
  • Provide architectural guidance and direction to engineering teams
  • Lead technical design reviews and ensure adherence to design principles
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and dependencies early
  • Drive best practices in design, coding, and deployment
  • Partner with product, business, and engineering leaders to define solution strategies
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Support pre-sales or strategic initiatives through solution modeling and presentations
  • Support solution implementation across the full SDLC
  • Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements (performance, availability, security, compliance)
  • Oversee integration and deployment strategies across environments
  • Establish and enforce architecture standards, patterns, and frameworks
  • Conduct architecture reviews and ensure alignment with enterprise governance
  • Maintain documentation of architecture artifacts, decisions, and patterns
