About The Position

The Solid Waste Laborer assists in various tasks related to waste collection, recycling, and disposal. This entry-level position involves performing manual labor, operating equipment, and maintaining cleanliness at waste collection sites to ensure the efficient and safe handling of solid waste materials.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or related field is advantageous but not required.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team to accomplish tasks and meet objectives.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures, technologies, and equipment used in waste collection and disposal operations.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality in attendance.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the collection and disposal of solid waste materials from residential and commercial areas, including loading and unloading waste containers onto collection vehicles.
• Sort recyclable materials from non-recyclable waste at designated collection sites, following established guidelines and procedures for recycling and waste separation.
• Operate equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, and forklifts to transport waste containers and materials safely and efficiently.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks on collection vehicles, equipment, and facilities, such as cleaning, fueling, and basic repairs, to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
• Follow established safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and members of the public to coordinate work activities, address service requests, and provide assistance as needed.
• Other Duties as assigned
• This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
