About The Position

The City of Waco is seeking a reliable candidate to support commercial solid waste collection operations for the Public Works Department, Solid Waste Division. Under basic supervision, the employee performs one assignment based on operational needs: operating sanitation trucks to collect and transport materials to City disposal and recycling facilities, or operating specialized heavy equipment at the City landfill or transfer station. Employees are assigned to one function and are not expected to perform both simultaneously. The minimum starting salary is $23.1866 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Requirements

Hold a written permit at the time of application.
Obtain a Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License within 90 days.
Have 6 months of heavy equipment operations and/or commercial vehicle experience.

Responsibilities

For Collections assignments, collect solid waste, refuse, bulky items, and recyclable materials and transport them to the City landfill, transfer station, and recycling center.
Operate sanitation trucks in accordance with safety regulations.
Perform manual labor tasks as needed.
Maintain daily work logs and records.
Provide customer service as needed.
For Landfill assignments, operate specialized heavy equipment to move, grade, and cover landfill and transfer station materials.
Monitor the work environment for safety and screen materials at the landfill to identify hazardous and prohibited waste.
Use proper safety precautions in all work performed.
Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment according to City standards.
Perform duties within the scope of authority and training and in compliance with City policies; duties may vary according to assignment.
Respond after hours, including holidays and weekends, when required during a departmental or City-wide emergency.
