The City of Mesa is recruiting for Solid Waste Equipment Operator I/II positions. The Solid Waste Equipment Operator I is an entry-level role responsible for the safe, economical, and efficient operation of light-to-heavy solid waste equipment, involved in the collection, transportation, or disposal of refuse and recyclables. This role requires limited to moderate skills in equipment manipulation and may involve public contact, prolonged physical exertion, and working in hazardous conditions under all weather. The Solid Waste Equipment Operator II is a journey-level classification responsible for the safe, efficient operation and care of moderately complex heavy solid waste equipment, including front loaders, automated side loaders, and roll-offs. This role also involves collection, transportation, and disposal of refuse and recyclables, requiring considerable skill and coordination. Both roles require adherence to safety guidelines, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and may involve assisting in maintenance and repair activities when not operating equipment. The Solid Waste Equipment Operator I may progress to Solid Waste Equipment Operator II upon meeting specific criteria.
