About The Position

Lake County Solid Waste is accepting applications for a Part-time Driver / Operator. This role involves operating large trucks and heavy equipment for solid waste collection and transport, performing minor repairs and maintenance, and interacting with the public and coworkers. The position requires knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to commercial motor vehicles and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Requirements

• Valid Class B CDL
• Acceptable driving record
• Minimum of 1 year of CDL driving experience in winter conditions
• Ability to operate large trucks and heavy equipment safely and skillfully
• Ability to conduct minor repair and maintenance of trucks and equipment
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and temperatures
• Ability to work well with the public and coworkers
• Knowledgeable of all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the operation of commercial motor vehicles
• Able to lift 80lbs
• Must obtain a Class A CDL by the end of the probationary period if starting with a Class B CDL

Nice To Haves

• Class A CDL is preferred
• Roll-off and pup trailer experience is preferred

Responsibilities

• Drive transfer truck to container sites
• Set empty containers
• Consolidate loaded containers
• Retrieve loaded containers
• Deliver and unload containers
• Clean area around container site, as well as truck and trailer
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment
• Operate heavy equipment
• Move and compact waste
• Perform landfill duties, including working at the ticket shack
• Perform other duties as assigned
