Solid Waste Commercial Collector/Driver

About The Position

Collects refuse along designated municipal routes, loads refuse, trash, and brush onto collection trucks, and may drive trucks or operate hoisting and packing mechanisms. Assists with refuse disposal at landfills, clears debris from collection sites and roadways, and performs right-of-way and vegetation upkeep. Cleans and sanitizes sanitation vehicles, conducts routine maintenance checks, and may help repair and maintain residential and commercial dumpsters. The role also includes groundskeeping at Spring Lake Campus and other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments. This position is designated safety-sensitive and is subject to the City’s Drug-Free and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy and applicable federal and Oklahoma law.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED.
Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Ability to read and interpret maps and service areas.
Ability to prepare and interpret minutes and agendas.
Knowledge of safety rules and guidelines, city geography, and roadways.
Skill in collecting residential refuse and in interpersonal relations.
No experience requirements.

Responsibilities

Collect refuse on designated municipal routes and load refuse, trash, and brush into a collection truck.
Drive a truck when required and operate hoisting and packing mechanisms to load refuse.
Assist with disposal of refuse at the landfill.
Clear debris from collection sites; rake trash and brush into piles and load it into the packer.
Remove debris from bull pens and collection sites, and remove items cleared from roadways and placed in public easements.
Assist with right-of-way clearing, including vegetation upkeep.
Clean and sanitize the sanitation truck after completing the daily route.
Assist with routine sanitation truck maintenance and with repair and maintenance of residential and commercial dumpsters.
Perform groundskeeping at Spring Lake Campus.
Perform other assigned duties, including assisting other departments as required.
