About The Position

SunCommon is seeking a Solar Installation Manager to oversee their solar installation crews, ensuring safe and high-quality work. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills with a focus on continuous improvement. The manager will be part of the Operations management team, implementing new initiatives and products. Safety is the top priority, and the manager is expected to uphold all safety protocols and stay current with advancements in solar technology. The position involves on-site work with installation crews and time in the Kingston, NY office. A dedication to customer and colleague care is essential.

Requirements

  • Experience on roof and ground mounted PV systems.
  • Experience coaching teams to work together to build trust and accomplish tasks.
  • Experience inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Experience setting up monitoring for PV systems.
  • Experience analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Experience developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience driving trucks with trailers, and operating lifts.
  • Experience determining time, costs, resources, and materials needed to perform electrical or solar work.
  • Experience providing guidance and direction to team members, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and provide coaching and mentoring to improve knowledge or skills.

  • Ability to work at heights - ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and roofs.
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility to travel throughout the Hudson Valley and the Capital regions.

Nice To Haves

  • NABCEP Installation Professional certification preferred.
  • Electrical license preferred (Journeyworker or Master), or relevant experience with equipment layout, conduit runs, wiring, and interconnection preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Crew Leads and Installers, including supervising employees, managing data, maintaining metrics, and developing and meeting quantitative and qualitative goals (safety, efficiency, quality, productivity).
  • Participate in cross-department work to improve processes and customer experience.
  • Communicate job status and estimated completion time on a daily basis with Residential Project Management staff via phone, email, CRM, or in-person.
  • Ensure PV systems are installed in accordance with NYSERDA, NEC and SunCommon standards; using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest code and solar installation techniques, and apply new knowledge to the job.
  • Operations Leadership: Drive growth and development of programs by working with a strong team to identify and meet opportunities.
  • Tracking and Analysis: Develop systems for effective tracking and staff accountability in achieving goals. Ensure team goals are met.
  • Program Development: Imagine and implement new initiatives as the solar industry evolves.
  • Hiring and Training Staff: Provide on-boarding training, ongoing feedback, and development. Create and maintain training materials. Coach for performance.
  • Staff Development: Facilitate regular 1-1 and team meetings for training and individual growth. Offer support and remove barriers to success by providing timely feedback and performance reviews. Help staff identify strengths and development opportunities.
  • Customer Service: Handle elevated customer situations with grace and compassion. Identify areas to clarify customer experience and develop tools to improve it.
  • Support SunCommon’s Culture: Actively contribute to a positive, enthusiastic, and adaptable team environment.
  • Administrative tasks, such as Tool purchasing & tracking, Time sheets, Expensify Reports, PTO approval & tracking, install schedule update and review, Purchase Orders in net suite, Tracking install metrics, Monthly graphs, Bonus calculations, heavy machinery maintenance / rental management.
  • Quality Control tasks, such as NYSERDA AUDITS, Reviewing installation photos, Pre-install meeting analysis, Documenting layout.
  • Monitoring weather forecast and making judgment calls.
  • Collaborating on custom labor quotes for various scenarios.
