About The Position

The Solar Field Service Technician supports Palmetto’s Service and Installation teams by resolving residential solar system performance issues and helping ensure customers receive the expected value from their systems. The role provides onsite troubleshooting and repairs, supports service, installation, job closeout, permitting, and inspection work, and helps maintain customer relationships throughout the life of their solar systems. The technician also supports pre-energization closeout so projects are ready to generate power from the first day of permission to operate. The position is based in the Los Angeles, California area and reports to the Team Lead of Service Operations. It involves direct communication with homeowners, coordination with local field teams and central scheduling, completion of job documentation, and feedback to field leadership and Customer Experience. Other work may include site surveys, inspections, document collection, training, quality and safety audits, field installations, and damage or claims investigations.

Requirements

At least 3 years of experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting residential solar and storage systems.
General knowledge of residential home maintenance and repair, including willingness to address customer issues beyond the scope of solar system maintenance.
Must be willing and able to climb ladders and stairs, work on rooftops, and remain on their feet for long periods.
Ability to work in extreme environments, including hot sun, cold, rain, and crawl spaces.
At least 1 year of experience working at heights, including rooftops and ladders, and performing repetitive duties such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently throughout the assigned workday.
Ability to safely handle and maintain basic hand and power tools used for installation.
Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor.
Attention to detail.
Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Valid state driver's license.
Clean driving record.
Successful completion of a background check is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

General construction or framing experience.
Electrical experience.
Electrical license; required only in Massachusetts and considered a plus elsewhere.

Responsibilities

Provide onsite troubleshooting and repair of solar systems.
Document site visits and complete job closeout reports.
Schedule site visits directly with customers when required.
Coordinate with local field teams and central scheduling to optimize resolution times.
Provide feedback to field leadership to support continuous improvement in installation quality and execution.
Assist with pre-energization issue closeout to ensure projects are ready to generate power from Day 1 of permission to operate.
Work with the Customer Experience team to resolve system issues and improve the customer experience.
Complete other tasks as needed, including physical site surveys, inspections, and document collection.
Represent Palmetto in the field and deliver quality, customer experience, and performance across Service and Installation work.
Communicate arrival times and confirmations to homeowners as needed.
Maintain service work site visit SLAs.
Perform operations and maintenance work and monitoring support.
Perform site surveys and site visits.
Conduct partner and internal field training.
Perform safety and quality site audits and job closeout reviews, and manage or conduct site inspections.
Perform field installations, including photovoltaic systems, storage, main panel upgrades, and structural upgrades.
Investigate damage and claims.
