About The Position

As a Software Engineer in Lam Research’s centralized software engineering team within the Global Products Group, you will design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software programs supporting design, infrastructure, and technology platforms. Your work will help determine hardware compatibility and support seamless software-hardware integration across Lam’s equipment portfolio. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, implement customer requirements, maintain and enhance existing applications, and provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers. Customer-site support may be required, with total travel of less than 10%. The position’s work location model depends on the needs of the role; Lam describes hybrid options as On-site Flex or Virtual Flex.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience; or a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience; or a PhD with no previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of object-oriented software, design, or programming implementation and design, including design patterns and finite state machines.
• Knowledge of multithreading, including preemptive thread scheduling.
• Knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART.

Nice To Haves

• Prior semiconductor equipment experience.
• Experience in distributed embedded controls systems.
• Software development skills in one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as C++ or C#.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software programs for enhancements and new products.
• Implement new customer requirements and features in existing applications.
• Investigate and resolve problem areas to maintain and enhance the existing code base.
• Demonstrate solutions through clear documentation, flowcharts, and well-structured code.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop software programs.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Provide support at customer sites when needed and travel as required; total travel is less than 10%.
