About The Position

The Boeing Company is seeking an Experienced Software Simulation Engineer to join the Training Systems - Battlespace Simulation Management (BSM) team in Hazelwood, MO, supporting the Boeing Global Services (BGS) Software Engineering organization. The BSM team is responsible for the design, development, manufacture, and maintenance of training devices for various aircraft and spacecraft. Software engineers on this team manage all phases of the software lifecycle, including architecture, design, implementation, and testing, while working within an agile methodology. The team comprises several agile sub-teams, some with specialized skills, and handles a backlog ranging from new feature development with cutting-edge technology to maintaining legacy software. The role requires comfort in a fast-paced environment and involves supporting the entire product development lifecycle within BSM. The engineer will contribute to building the next generation of flight simulators for military pilots, developing subsystems for Boeing Flight Trainers such as the Instructor/Operator Station, Brief/Debrief Station, Synthetic Environments, and core building block technologies like graphics, video, networking, mission planning, and exercise management & control. This position is 100% onsite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
  • 5+ years of experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test)
  • 5+ years of experience in Object-Oriented development

  • Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s Degree and 9+ years of directly related work experience OR 13+ years of related, relevant experience
  • 2+ years of experience working with agile teams and agile software development
  • Experience with and an understanding of the USAF’s Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) network
  • Modeling complex warfare interactions in a Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) architecture
  • Experience in integrating fighter platform and adversary systems onto the DMO network
  • Knowledge of radar, electronic warfare, infrared environment, weapon systems, physics is a must
  • Knowledge of and experience with MATLAB is a plus
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools and environments, with a preference for specific tools relevant to the industry
  • Experience in developing or integrating simulation software for military, commercial, or space applications, demonstrating an understanding of industry-specific requirements
  • Experience with aircraft platforms, aviation, simulation, and training systems
  • Knowledge of simulation validation and verification processes
  • Experience with agile workflow tools such as Gitlab
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, architecture, and development of simulation models, visualizations, virtual environments/platforms, and frameworks as part of Design and Development efforts
  • Partner with stakeholders to review and identify simulation requirements and understand the dynamics of the systems being simulated, ensuring effective Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Conduct validation, verification, and refinement of simulation software code, models, simulations, and test procedures; execute test procedures, document test results, and compare models against real-world data, benchmarks, or similar models as part of Validation and Verification
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of technical code, algorithms, specifications, and descriptions of simulation models to support Technical Documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate simulation software with hardware devices and systems, facilitating Cross-Functional Integration
  • Implement current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and methods within the software engineering simulation environment to drive Technology Implementation
  • Assist in simulation software project management functions, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project goals as part of Project Management
  • Participate in design and implementation peer reviews to ensure code quality and share best practices, contributing to Peer Reviews
  • Promote continuous improvement by proposing ideas for process enhancements, tool upgrades, and automation improvements to support Continuous Improvement
  • Support proposal development and lead engineering execution by identifying necessary activities, resources, and tasks to fulfill the work statement, providing Proposal Support
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation within the team
