About The Position

i3 is looking for a Software Safety Engineer to join our team. The candidate will provide Software and System Safety Engineering guidance and support to a US Army government project office (PO), ensuring adherence to applicable service and agency safety policies, criteria, and standards to support fielding to US Army locations. The candidate will provide software and system safety expertise to establish software design criteria and software safety requirements as well as perform independent safety analyses, studies, and design evaluations of software systems, subsystems, and equipment. The candidate will evaluate contractor’s safety engineering program plans to ensure goals and objectives are achieved. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for establishing software safety test requirements, plans, and programs within the software development lifecycle. The candidate will be responsible for development, execution, and management of internal software safety procedures and program plans. The candidate will travel to both laboratory and operational test sites to assess system safety and eliminate existing hazards. MBSE Modeling experience will also be required. Candidate will need to be able to model the Software Safety changes within the MBSE System Model, update the MagicDraw script to print reports and keep the Safety Model up to date.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (or Master’s) in an Engineering oriented discipline or safety related field and 4+ years of relevant experience is required. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Candidates must have expert knowledge of safety principles, regulations, and practices including experience carrying out hazard control techniques as well as conducting risk analysis on weapons systems.
  • Demonstrated experience applying DoD/Army policies and regulations for systems safety is required.
  • Candidate should excel in communications techniques to effectively lead safety efforts.
  • Candidate should possess experience demonstrating timely identification of hazards and initiation of actions necessary to eliminate or reduce the risk level.
  • Candidate should have experience developing, assessing, or managing a systems safety program for a DoD weapon system hardware or software.
  • Candidate must be experienced with Microsoft Office products.
  • Candidate must be able to think independently and be self-motivated, with proven organizational skills, ability to multi-task and support varied assignments.
  • Candidate must be a US citizen, and must be a resident near Huntsville, AL, or be willing to relocate.
  • While primary responsibilities are at Redstone Arsenal, candidates will be required to travel as needed to test sites and equipment locations (up to 25%).
  • Candidate must have a Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with air and missile defense systems is a plus.
  • Experience with application of system safety policies within programs using agile software development and/or Model Based System Engineering is a plus.
