About The Position

This role is in Textron System’s Weapon Systems business area. The Software Safety Engineer will be responsible for working as part of a multidisciplinary team during the development phase of complex systems that require critical safety controls. This includes executing system safety and embedded software safety programs, analyzing explosive, mechanical, electrical, and software systems for hazards, and developing system safety architectures. The role also involves oversight of the implementation and verification of hazard mitigations at both system and subsystem levels, while assuring compliance with other key system performance requirements. This role is not for application SW safety or IT system safety.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering or other relevant engineering disciplines
5+ years of relevant industry experience
Demonstrated ability to understand software and data interfaces to assess potential failure modes that could lead to a hazard
Demonstrated ability to manage and execute software safety assurance activities and processes with the above standards
Demonstrated ability to understand mechanical and electrical drawings
Demonstrated ability to understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams and understand circuit and interface failure modes that could lead to a hazard
Demonstrated ability to create injected fault data into digital systems
Active Secret clearance preferred; Secret eligibility required

Experience (or interest in specializing/learning system safety) in MIL-STD-882E System Safety
Experience (or interest in specializing/learning system safety) in DO-178/254 Software/Hardware development guidelines
Experience (or interest in specializing/learning system safety) in Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEHB)
Experience (or interest in specializing/learning system safety) in AOP-52 Software Safety Design and Assessment of Munition-Related Computing Systems
Experience (or interest in specializing/learning system safety) in MIL-STD-1472

Responsibilities

Working as part of a multidisciplined team during the development phase of complex systems that require critical safety controls
