About The Position

Peraton is seeking an experienced Software Quality Assurance Engineer for the BASIS program. The role independently owns quality assurance and test automation activities with minimal supervision, including automated test design and delivery, test documentation, defect lifecycle management, and security testing integration. All quality assurance activities must be automated. The engineer manages automation deliverables across Agile sprint cycles, contributes to QA strategy, supports junior engineers, and communicates with developers and Government stakeholders about quality metrics and release readiness across the deployment pipeline. This is a 100% remote role. The engineer develops and maintains automated tests across unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end functional testing; integrates tests into a Government-managed DevSecOps pipeline; applies Test-Driven Development; and assesses and expands automation coverage. The role also owns traceability and formal test documentation, reporting and release artifacts, defect triage and escalation, Section 508/WCAG accessibility testing and VPAT documentation, performance and disaster recovery testing support, and quality gates and reporting throughout Agile and DevSecOps processes.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in software quality assurance, test automation engineering, or related software testing with a BS/BA; 3 years with an MS/MA; or 9 years with a high school diploma.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing automated test frameworks and scripts using tools such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber, Python, Java, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Test-Driven Development practices and their application within Agile sprint cycles.
  • Proficiency with JIRA for defect tracking, sprint management, and reporting.
  • Experience developing Requirements Traceability Matrices, UAT plans, and formal testing documentation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated test integration in a DevSecOps environment.
  • Experience with Section 508/WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility testing and VPAT preparation.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, including the ability to report QA status and metrics to program leadership and Government stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Cybersecurity workforce certification such as Security+ or CASP+.
  • ISTQB Foundation or Advanced Level certification.
  • Experience supporting DoD or Federal government IT programs with formal QA deliverable obligations.
  • Familiarity with eMASS and Fortify Software Security Center for vulnerability tracking and POA&M management.
  • Prior experience with or exposure to DEERS, TRICARE, or other DoD healthcare or benefits systems.
  • Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 security controls as they relate to application testing and compliance.
  • Experience with performance/load testing tools and stress testing in production-simulation environments.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow for incident management and tracking.
  • Experience mentoring junior QA team members and reviewing test artifacts for quality and completeness.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design, develop, implement, and maintain automated unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end functional test scripts across the application portfolio.
  • Ensure automated test cases are executable by the end of each Agile sprint and integrated into the Government-managed DevSecOps pipeline.
  • Apply Test-Driven Development by authoring test cases before code development and collaborating with software engineers on coverage of functional requirements.
  • Lead Test Automation State Assessments for assigned application areas and produce reports with automation completion estimates.
  • Automate adjacent legacy test cases according to Government-approved schedules to expand regression coverage.
  • Evaluate automation approaches and recommend improvements to test architecture, reusability, and pipeline integration.
  • Mentor junior QA engineers on automation practices, test script development, and tool use.
  • Develop and own Requirements Traceability Matrices at the end of each development cycle or sprint, ensuring traceability and coverage of functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Document test activities, execution results, and defects in the Government-provided Test Case Management System.
  • Prepare Testing Reports, draft and final Release Notes, and Software Version Descriptions according to release cadence requirements.
  • Enforce and monitor contractual quality thresholds, including zero defects released to production.
  • Lead defect triage and root cause analysis in JIRA, manage escalation workflows, document issues, and submit JIRA tickets before escalations.
  • Submit weekly defect escalation reports to customers and the Government Product Owner.
  • Lead Section 508/WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility testing at planned intervals and integrate accessibility compliance into QA.
  • Prepare VPATs, including test results, remediation reports, and conformance-level documentation for applicable deliverables.
  • Report Section 508 compliance testing status and metrics.
  • Lead stress and load testing in the ProdSim environment, prepare schedules for Government approval, and execute approved schedules.
  • Coordinate and support Disaster Recovery testing with technical and operations teams.
  • Support IV&V of applications before production deployment and ensure findings are tracked and resolved.
  • Participate in and help facilitate Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain sprint-level defect tracking, test case completion status, and burn-down metrics in JIRA, and provide QA-focused sprint reporting to program leadership.
  • Enforce SDLC quality gates and flag or escalate non-conforming deliverables before stage promotion.
  • Prepare and submit the monthly Quality Status Report.
