About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Data Strategy, the Software Quality and Compliance Assurance Specialist will ensure the quality, usability, and compliance of tools and systems built or maintained by the Data Strategy team. This role has two primary areas of responsibility: quality assurance testing and user experience review, and compliance assurance across data handling and applicable regulatory or funder requirements. The Specialist plays a supporting role across projects as needed, helping ensure new tools are reliable and usable before they reach staff or clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field OR 3+ years of experience in software quality assurance, testing, or UI/UX work.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and executing test plans for web-based applications.
  • Solid understanding of coding logic and structure, with exposure to Python and/or SQL, sufficient to read through an application's logic and identify where something breaks.
  • Understanding of UI/UX design principles, with experience using design or prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) to evaluate and give feedback on interfaces.
  • Experience with usability testing and accessibility review.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and data validation concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to learning new systems, tools, and frameworks as needed.
  • Experience translating business requirements into structured workflows and technical designs.
  • Experience with bug tracking and QA documentation tools.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and recommend technical solutions.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and frameworks.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Comfort working across multiple systems and datasets to produce clear, actionable insights.
  • Valid identification and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel to various sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of data privacy and confidentiality requirements in nonprofit or human services settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in QA testing for new tools and features before deployment.
  • Review usability of internal and external-facing tools and applications, flagging issues before release.
  • Test data flows and integrations across systems for accuracy and completeness.
  • Verify that tools and workflows align with applicable compliance, data privacy, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Evaluate accessibility of client- and staff-facing applications.
  • Document test cases, defects, and resolutions in a shared tracking system.
  • Partner with developers to triage and prioritize issues ahead of releases.
  • Support definition of acceptance criteria for new features.
  • Maintain QA documentation and testing protocols.
  • Participate in project reviews to assess readiness for release.
  • Stay informed on trends in QA, compliance, and user experience to bring ideas to the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
