About The Position

Health Advocate is seeking a Software QA Manager to lead its company-wide quality assurance team, including offshore employees, and shape how its applications and services are tested and improved. This role balances business priorities with technical improvements and innovation, using judgment to determine where automation is valuable, where deeper investigation is needed, and how to use team capacity effectively. It combines people leadership with hands-on engineering, including collaboration with business leaders, coaching QA engineers, reviewing automation code, and investigating issues across the application stack. Experienced SDETs and QA technical leads with demonstrated technical staff leadership experience are encouraged to apply. The manager will lead QA planning across Health Advocate’s software portfolio, assess support requests and product risks, oversee testing strategies and automation across web, API, Windows desktop, and mobile products, and promote quality throughout development and release readiness. The role also includes maintaining testing assets and infrastructure, incorporating AI tools into QA work, and developing a long-term plan for improving quality, automation, and team effectiveness. The position is fully remote and requires a home office with appropriate lighting, a computer, and phone access. It is primarily sedentary, involving prolonged sitting, extensive computer use, and frequent phone use. The salary is up to $140,000 annually, based on experience and education. Applicants must reside in the United States and have a completed bachelor’s degree or higher.

  • Experience testing cloud-hosted applications or services; no specific cloud provider is required.
  • Working knowledge of database querying and data validation.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, defect management, and software delivery practices.
  • Practical professional experience using AI tools, including prompting AI assistants to support coding, testing, analysis, or documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all QA employees, including offshore resources, by setting expectations, assigning work, providing feedback, and ensuring accountability.
  • Assess team and individual capabilities, identify skill gaps, establish training and development plans, and mentor staff in testing, automation, troubleshooting, and collaboration.

  • Design and guide maintainable automation for web, API, Windows desktop, and mobile products; write, review, debug, and maintain automation code.
  • Guide functional, exploratory, integration, regression, performance, and load testing.
  • Investigate failures across application layers using logs, database queries, service responses, and other diagnostic evidence.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and improve the reliability and usefulness of test results.
  • Oversee the availability, reliability, and maintenance of test environments, test data, testing infrastructure, automation frameworks, and test execution systems for cloud-hosted and other applications.
  • Evaluate and apply AI tools to improve testing, automation, analysis, and documentation, reviewing their outputs for accuracy and usefulness.
