About The Position

The Software Product Management focus specializes in designing, developing, and managing activities for a specific hardware or software product or group of products from product definition and planning through production, release, and end of life. Serves as the central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, and marketing as the product(s) move to production and distribution. Requirements

  • M.A. required in Visual Communication design
  • Experience with or interest in analyzing large-scale biological data.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Strong initiative and ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Must be flexible and able to respond to shifting priorities in a dynamic setting.
  • 3+ years of related experience, OR a master’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design and develop web-based tools that enables exploration of electronic health record concepts (ICD codes, SNOMED concepts, medications)
  • Build and iterate on features for navigating hierarchical clinical code relationships, supporting phenotype definition workflows used by both internal researchers and pharmaceutical partners
  • Creates interactive views for prevalence and incidence metrics that support data quality assessment across datasets
  • Develop cross-vocabulary mapping visualizations that enable validation of mappings between ICD, SNOMED, and other clinical terminologies
  • Ensures tool integrations with existing infrastructure function reliably for end users
  • Demonstrates ability to bridge technical implementation with diverse research needs.
  • Gather and synthesize requirements from pharmaceutical partner analysts
  • Translate complex, often loosely defined research needs into concrete, actionable software development items with clear technical specifications
  • Navigate the challenges of supporting users with varying levels of technical and clinical informatics expertise across multiple organizations
  • Iterate on tool features based on user feedback, balancing partner-specific requests with broader usability for the FinnGen research community
  • Communicate technical constraints and design trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders in an accessible manner
  • Contextual understanding that amplifies technical contributions.
  • Demonstrate applied understanding of electronic health record data structures, clinical coding hierarchies, and how they are used in biobank-scale genetic research
  • EHRBrowser directly supports FinnGen’s phenotyping pipeline, which underpins genome-wide association studies across hundreds of disease endpoints
  • Tool outputs are used by pharmaceutical partners in their evaluation of FinnGen data for drug target discovery and validation
  • Contributes to data quality infrastructure by making temporal trends and coding patterns visible and explorable, enabling researchers to identify anomalies or shifts in registry data
