About The Position

As a Software Product Engineer for Android Auto Projection, you will be responsible for understanding, evaluating, and spearheading the integration of Google’s projection technologies into Ford vehicles. This includes managing the technical relationship with Google, optimizing wireless and wired connectivity protocols, and ensuring that Android Auto features—such as navigation, media, and voice assistants—are deeply and reliably integrated with Ford’s hardware, HMI, and vehicle signals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience as a Software Product Engineer, with a strong background in integrating mobile projection technologies (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay) or third-party mobile APIs.
  • Excellent understanding of the automotive industry, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, and the Android ecosystem.
  • Skilled in software development, with experience in languages and frameworks used in Android and automotive environments (e.g., Java, Kotlin, C++, Android SDK).
  • Familiarity with Android OS internals, Projection protocols (VHAL, video/audio pipelines), and wireless connectivity standards (802.11ac/ax, Bluetooth).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to manage technical relationships with external partners (Google), and a collaborative mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional global teams.
  • A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in mobile technology and its intersection with the automotive sector.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly analyze and comprehend the capabilities, certification requirements, and integration protocols of Android Auto Projection (Wireless and Wired).
  • Partner with Google, Ford UX, and infotainment development teams to architect and implement seamless, high-performance projection experiences.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage Android Auto’s "Car App Library" and Google’s latest projection updates to enhance Ford-specific features and services.
  • Ensure reliable and efficient integration of video streaming, audio focus management, and touch-screen latency across Ford’s SYNC and next-gen infotainment platforms.
  • Proactively explore emerging trends in the mobile-to-vehicle ecosystem (e.g., Ultra-Wideband connectivity, multi-display projection) to identify potential future integrations.
  • Provide expert guidance on Android Auto certification processes (Google AAP certification) and support the maintenance of projection-powered features.
  • Experience working with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth stacks and real-time video/audio streaming protocols to ensure a stable wireless projection environment.
  • Design and implement features that allow Android Auto to accurately leverage vehicle-side data (GPS, wheel speed, fuel/EV status) to provide a more precise and integrated user experience.
