About The Position

Perform highly visible on-site and remote software installations and upgrades of all Varian Software products, which includes troubleshooting and diagnosis as needed. This role involves working with physical and virtual environments, operating systems, databases, and other software and networking technologies. The engineer will review the scope of work for assigned tasks, ensure all hardware and software components are available, and review customer IT infrastructure and project plans to ensure they meet documented installation requirements. The position also requires completing all necessary task documentation to meet Varian's Quality processes and procedures, maintaining customer system inventories, and staying current on Varian products and technologies through training and certification. Collaboration with project management, local service, and hardware installation teams is essential for providing World Class Customer Service. The role includes performing upgrades and new installations, potentially leading small to medium-scale software projects, and inputting detailed records of work performed into company information systems. Maintaining professionalism and safety according to VMS guidelines and customer regulations is paramount. Regular and timely reporting through FSRs, time sheets, and expense reports is required. The engineer will use prescribed problem-resolution escalation procedures and request technical assistance when necessary. Attending planning calls and providing technical input, advising customers on product information resources, and mentoring less experienced Installation Representatives are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree/Technical Degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of directly related and transferrable experience
  • Proficient in Server & Workstation Microsoft Environments
  • Proficient in Networks & Network techniques
  • Functional knowledge of Citrix and VMWare technologies
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Customer focused
  • Proficient in English language (spoken & written)
  • Familiar with business tools such as SharePoint and time reporting systems.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license in the state they reside.
  • Must not have any prior DUI/DWI convictions or pending DUI/DWI charges or other serious moving violations (unless such a restriction is prohibited by state/local law).
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed.
  • Ability to work as needed to provide installs on weekends, days, evenings, on call.
  • Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US export control law.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose software issues as needed.
  • Review scope of work for assigned tasks to ensure all hardware and software components are available.
  • Review customer IT infrastructure and project plans to ensure they meet documented installation requirements.
  • Complete all necessary task documentation to meet Varian's Quality processes and procedures.
  • Maintain customer system inventories using Site Equipment Configuration documentation or equivalent.
  • Keep current on Varian products and technologies through both internal and external training and certification.
  • Create and maintain an account with VCS (Vendor Credentialing System).
  • Team with project management, local service and hardware installation teams to provide World Class Customer Service.
  • Perform upgrades and new installations.
  • Serve as team leader duties on small to medium scale software projects.
  • Input detailed records of installation and upgrade work performed into company information systems.
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism and safety according to VMS guidelines and customer regulations.
  • Report by means of FSR's, time sheets, expense reports, etc. regularly and in a timely fashion.
  • Complete all required installation documentation that pertains to the job being completed and update all requested and/or required data for tracking purposes.
  • Use prescribed problem-resolution escalation procedures and request technical assistance when necessary, in a timely manner.
  • Attend planning calls and provide technical input as needed.
  • Advise customers on where to find Customer Technical Bulletins, Release Notes and related product information and why these documents are important.
  • Advise less experienced Installation Representatives in technical matters.
