Software Engineering Technical Lead
About The Position
Trip Optimizer® is an Energy Management system designed to optimize and automate train operations by creating the most fuel-efficient plan while respecting time and train handling constraints. This role involves supporting the Trip Optimizer® Innovation product, focusing on both the development of new functionalities and the maintenance and expansion of existing functions. The Software Engineer will collaborate with design, software, and validation engineers, and will report to the Software Manager and the broader business unit, ensuring on-time delivery and quality software. Responsibilities include investigating root cause analysis and implementing defect fixes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Proficient in software design, methods, and architecture approaches
- Knowledge of software engineering principles
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience with C/C++ software development

- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Railroad industry experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Prior project leadership experience with large-scale software projects
- Self-starter with the ability to lead with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities
- Design and develop high quality software products that align with system and subsystem requirements.
- Work closely with the broader business unit to ensure application development meets product specification requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions as necessary.
- Develop documentation including software design, requirements, process and architecture documents.
- Actively participate in software architecture, design, and code reviews.
- Execute and enhance the entire software development lifecycle.
- Create and maintain automated unit test cases for new designs.
- Investigate and remediate cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
