Software Engineering Technical Lead
About The Position
Trip Optimizer® is an Energy Management system designed to optimize and automate train operations by creating the most fuel-efficient plan that respects customer constraints. In this role, the Software Engineer will primarily work with design, software, and validation engineers to support the Trip Optimizer® Innovation product. This role is responsible for developing new functionalities and maintaining/expanding existing functions of Trip Optimizer®. As a member of the Trip Optimizer Software Development team, you will collaborate closely with the Design and Systems Engineering teams to prototype and develop high-quality software products that align with Systems and Subsystem Requirements, meeting Innovation product needs. You will report to the Software Manager and the broader business unit to ensure on-time deliveries and quality software. You will also investigate root cause analysis for issues and implement defect fixes as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Proficient in software design, methods, and architecture approaches
- Knowledge of software engineering principles
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience with C/C++ software development

- Railroad industry experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Prior project leadership experience with large-scale software projects
- Self-starter with the ability to lead with minimum supervision

Responsibilities
- Design and develop high quality software products that align with system and subsystem requirements
- Work closely with the broader business unit to ensure application development meets product specification requirements
- Perform root cause analysis and develops solutions as necessary
- Develop documentation including software design, requirements, process and architecture documents
- Actively participate in software architecture, design, and code reviews
- Execute and enhance the entire software development lifecycle
- Create and maintain automated unit test cases for new designs
- Investigate and remediate cybersecurity vulnerabilities
