Software Engineering SMTS - Cloud Reliability

Salesforce•San Francisco, CA
•$148,500 - $246,000

About The Position

Salesforce’s Cloud Platform Engineering team builds and operates highly available, active-active cloud infrastructure at scale. The team treats its internal platform as a product, prioritizing developer velocity, automation-first design, security guardrails, reliability, deep observability, and AI-native workflows. The Software Engineering SMTS will build cloud infrastructure and partner with platform teams to deliver infrastructure vending machines and reusable infrastructure-as-code modules. These solutions enable internal product teams to provision governed, multi-account AWS environments. The engineer owns their domain as a product, understands internal customer needs, reduces friction, and delivers platform improvements. The role includes owning Account Factory for Terraform (AFT) as a Terraform Enterprise subject matter expert; developing secure Terraform modules and policy guardrails; integrating security, policy, and cost controls into CI/CD; engineering multi-region resilience and failover; connecting provisioning pipelines and AI agents with Slack; using AI coding assistants to develop infrastructure code; building observability capabilities; and advising teams on SRE practices.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in Software Engineering, SRE, or Platform Engineering in large-scale AWS environments.
  • Expert-level Terraform experience, including managing state at scale, decoupling modules, and continuous IaC delivery.
  • Strong Python or Go skills for custom tooling and AWS SDK integrations, such as Boto3 or the Go SDK.
  • Deep knowledge of AWS services including IAM, VPC, Cloud WAN, EKS/ECS, Lambda, and DynamoDB, and multi-region active-active disaster recovery.
  • Experience with GitOps-driven deployments and automated guardrails in enterprise pipelines.
  • Daily hands-on practice with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS certification such as Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional, or Security Specialty.
  • Experience with AWS Control Tower, Account Factory for Terraform (AFT), or custom account vending.
  • Hands-on chaos engineering experience with AWS FIS, Gremlin, or equivalent Game Day practices.
  • Experience building agentic pipelines or AI-integrated developer tooling.
  • Familiarity with Slack platform development, Bolt SDK, or ChatOps automation.
  • Background in FinOps, Policy-as-Code (Sentinel or OPA), or secrets management (Vault).

Responsibilities

  • Own AFT as a Terraform Enterprise subject matter expert and automate multi-region, multi-account provisioning through AWS Organizations and Control Tower.
  • Author, test, and version-control secure, pre-approved Terraform modules, and translate compliance requirements into Sentinel and SCP policies.
  • Integrate automated security scanning, Policy-as-Code enforcement, and cost guardrails into developer pull requests, using AI to surface risks, suggest remediations, and improve rules.
  • Implement automated failover across availability zones and regions using Cloud WAN, ARC, and FIS, and lead Game Days that simulate catastrophic failures.
  • Integrate provisioning pipelines and AI agents with Slack for real-time intelligence, ChatOps control, and zero-touch operations.
  • Use AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor to author, review, and validate infrastructure code.
  • Build centralized logging, metrics, and tracing capabilities using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Datadog, and define and enforce SLOs and SLIs.
  • Advise internal teams on observability practices, alerting strategies, and resilience architecture.
  • Automate recurring issues, own the platform domain end-to-end, identify single points of failure, and maintain runbooks, ADRs, and processes as code.
