About The Position

Wells Fargo Technology sets IT strategy; enhances the design, development, and operations of our systems; optimizes the Wells Fargo infrastructure footprint; provides information security; and enables continuous banking access through in-store, online, ATM, and other channels to Wells Fargo’s more than 70 million global customers. This role is for a Software Engineering Senior Manager in Iselin, NJ. The manager will be responsible for managing, coaching, and developing a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, building high-quality capabilities with modern technology. They will ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture and meet non-functional requirements with each release. The role involves partnering with, engaging, and influencing architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, understanding next-generation domain architecture, and enabling application migration paths to target architecture (e.g., cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy). The manager will function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning, identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks (code, build, deployment), and manage overall software development cycle and security standards. They will determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and teams to meet moderate to high-risk deliverables, help remove impediments, and encourage constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement. The role includes building engineering skills within the codebase, conducting peer reviews, guiding design, and interpreting/developing/ensuring security, stability, and scalability within technology functions. Collaboration with Product Managers/Product Owners is key to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities, promote innovative solutions, generate corporate value, and articulate technical strategy while advocating for agile and DevOps practices. Interaction with third-party vendors and technology service providers is also part of the role. The manager will manage the allocation of people and financial resources to meet commitments and align with strategic objectives, and build/guide a culture of talent development to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions. Performance management for engineers and managers will be conducted. Telecommuting is permitted up to 2 days a week, but the position requires in-person presence at the work address.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Six (6) years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation involving software engineering
  • 4 years working in large enterprise environments
  • 4 years of Agile experience
  • 4 years managing domestic and offshore teams, driving resource efficiencies and innovation
  • 3 years of management experience
  • Experience managing large or multiple technology development efforts and infrastructure functions, including complex cross-functional projects
  • Working with IT Governance, Controls and Risk partners
  • Knowledge of ITIL and SRE Principles
  • Developing, maintaining, and testing Disaster Recovery (DR) plans with regular validation
  • Defining, implementing, and analyzing capacity metrics for scalability and performance of high-volume, mission-critical applications and infrastructure
  • Experience with IT infrastructure, database, application development and design, including Cloud-based service topology and real-time monitoring tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry including system stability, performance optimization, incident support, business impact analysis, and risk management methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high-risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement.
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed.
  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk.
  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices.
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers.
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering.
  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers.
