A Day in the Life Day in the Life As a Software Manager working at Medtronic, you will be a leader contributing to the Software functional area. This involves building and managing a highly engaged team of engineers to ensure that they are positioned for growth and success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in customer-facing software product development, with a proven track record of delivering successful software projects AND 5+ years of experience in managing software development teams with a proven ability to lead and motivate teams
  • Experience in developing software products in languages such as C++, C#, Javascript, Dart, Python, etc…
  • Strong understanding of software application development (primarily on desktop, lesser on mobile and cloud) development and verification, with a comprehensive knowledge of relevant technologies and SDLC methodologies (Agile, SCRUM, SAFE).
  • Proven ability to manage projects within a matrix reporting structure, demonstrating strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to blend people management and technical expertise, with a passion for both leading teams and solving complex technical challenges.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching software engineers and testers, with a commitment to fostering their professional growth.
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years prior relevant experience. For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers that design, develop, and verify software applications for medical devices (primarily desktop applications with minor support for mobile and web). Primary domain will be developing software application updates for existing medical products
  • Be responsible for day-to-day technical management including: software project sprint backlog management, assignment management, and tracking team deliverable
  • Deal with complex, difficult, and sometimes undefined problems requiring detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation
  • Partner with the greater R&D organization (quality, regulatory, and marketing)
  • Communicate with stakeholders regarding ongoing operations
  • Drive best software development practices and build sustainable processes within your functional area.
  • Lead, coach, and review the work of your team
  • Oversees activities of the company’s development and design requirements for software systems, applications and software quality assurance for enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or internet-related tools, to meet the current and future Software needs.
  • Manages activities to assure programs are appropriately resourced and ensure continuous improvement in technical capability, process, and compliance.
  • Manages scope, cost, and schedule within a cross-functional development team.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
