About The Position

Care.com's Enterprise business provides care benefits to employers through LifeCare (WorkLife). The Software Engineering Manager will lead the LifeCare engineering team and the supporting PeopleSoft team, owning delivery, reliability, security, and compliance for these systems. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines coaching and team development with collaboration across product and operations, audit work, and incident response. The manager will work with product, QA, data, DevOps, security, DBA, and infrastructure partners; oversee integrations and vendor relationships; and balance ongoing support requests with roadmap work. The role also focuses on improving code and design quality, reducing reliance on individual knowledge holders, and proposing modernization and technical-debt investments with clear cost-benefit analysis.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience and at least 2 years of engineering management experience.
  • A track record of coaching engineers and managing performance.
  • Strong technical grounding in Java/Spring Boot services and relational databases (Oracle and/or MySQL), with the ability to lead architecture and design discussions.
  • Experience delivering legacy modernization, migration, or platform-decoupling projects.
  • Working knowledge of authentication and identity, including OAuth2/OIDC, SAML, and SSO, and IDaaS products such as AWS Cognito, Auth0, or Okta.
  • Experience with AWS, Terraform, CI/CD (Jenkins or GitHub Actions), and observability tools such as Splunk or similar.
  • Experience leading incident response as a war-room lead and running blameless post-mortems.
  • Experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP, SOC 2, SOX, PCI, or similar) and comfort working with auditors.
  • Clear communication with executives, product and operations partners, and distributed teams.

Nice To Haves

  • PeopleSoft experience (PeopleTools, PeopleCode, Integration Broker) or experience with comparable enterprise CRM/ERP platforms.
  • Snowflake integration experience.
  • Familiarity with TypeScript/React/Next.js, GraphQL, and Go.
  • Background in enterprise benefits, HR-tech, or marketplace businesses.
  • Experience managing vendor or staff-augmentation teams.
  • Local to Dallas or Austin, Texas; candidates in these locations are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow engineers across the LifeCare and PeopleSoft teams, including offshore engineers and vendor partners.
  • Manage performance and career growth, and build a safe, accountable team culture.
  • Partner with product, QA, data, and DevOps on scoping, estimation, and trade-offs.
  • Provide stakeholders with clear, regular status updates.
  • Own production health, including on-call readiness, incident response, post-mortems, observability, and alerting.
  • Drive FedRAMP, STIG, and SOC 2/SOX commitments with security, DBA, and infrastructure partners, including audit logging, TLS, vulnerability scanning, and access and change reviews.
  • Prioritize support, bug, report, and permission requests against roadmap work and shield the team from low-priority distractions.
  • Oversee integrations, including Snowflake, SFTP eligibility feeds, and client SSO via SAML/OIDC.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships.
  • Raise code and design quality through effective use of AI tools and reduce single points of knowledge.
  • Propose technical-debt and modernization investments with clear cost-benefit analysis.

  • Life and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) employer matching program.
  • Paid holidays.
