Software Engineering Manager, Google Payments
About The Position
Join the Forms of Payment (FOPs) UI organization to lead and grow a high-performing team of 10+ software engineers. In this role, you will drive the people and technical direction for Cards UI and Tokenization—the foundational payment experiences powering Google Play, Ads, YouTube, Cloud, and Wallet globally. You will foster an experimentation-first, data-driven engineering culture, balancing strategic technical leadership with direct development expertise to deliver seamless, secure transaction flows to hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Whether it is paying online with Autofill, using tap and pay in stores, or using the Google Pay app, the Payments team at Google is focused on making payments simple, seamless, and secure. In addition to consumer payment technologies, the Payments team also powers the money movement between Google and its consumers and businesses. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with software development, building front-end, mobile, or full-stack applications.
- 3 years of experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring and coaching.
- Experience designing and delivering user-facing features, platform UIs, or web/mobile customer experiences.
- Experience leading system design, architecture reviews, and engineering quality standards.
- Experience collaborating with Product Management and UX Design teams.
Nice To Haves
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Experience managing teams that build user-facing product features on Android, iOS, or web.
- Experience in payments, fintech, commerce, checkout, or other conversion-sensitive user-facing flows.
- Experience with A/B experimentation, funnel analysis, and building a metrics-driven engineering culture.
- Experience leading large-scale platform migrations or shipping to global audiences with regulatory and compliance constraints.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of 10+ software engineers, overseeing hiring, career development, and performance management.
- Own the end-to-end Cards UI and Tokenization roadmap, driving measurable outcomes across conversion, latency, and reliability.
- Build and optimize critical card experiences, including acquisition, display, verification (3DS2, CVN), and DPAN tokenization flows.
- Guide system architecture and design reviews, raise engineering quality bars, and lead platform migrations onto next-generation payments infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Product Management, UX, and partner engineering teams across Google to align technical strategy and execute complex initiatives.
