About The Position

Carrier is seeking a Computer Scientist or Software Engineer to join its eDesign team in Syracuse, New York. The team develops and maintains software tools used by engineering firms worldwide to design and optimize the energy efficiency of commercial building HVAC systems. The intern will contribute to desktop application software for HVAC system design and energy modeling, from requirements analysis and solution design through implementation and testing. The role also involves collaborating with developers and participating in Agile processes, team planning, and project meetings.

Requirements

Be currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or any engineering field, at junior or senior level.
Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

Previous internship experience.
Understanding of object-oriented design and analysis (OOD and OOA).
Technology experience including Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL, XML, JSON, WPF, and XAML.
Demonstrated experience completing independent, self-motivated tasks and excellent problem-solving skills.
Experience with software development principles and processes.
Experience using agentic AI tools for software development.
Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation communication skills.

Responsibilities

Develop desktop application software for HVAC system design and energy modeling.
Analyze software requirements and design software solutions.
Code to implement solutions.
Collaborate with other developers on planning, design, code reviews, and test planning.
Perform unit and system testing.
Participate in the Agile development process.
Participate in team project meetings.
Evaluate and identify new libraries, tools, and technologies for the software development team as needed.
