About The Position

AiDASH is hiring two Backend Software Engineering Interns to help build backend systems supporting the growth of its satellite- and AI-powered products for utilities. This is a hands-on engineering internship involving scoped backend work intended to ship to production, with day-to-day mentorship from a senior engineer, including code reviews and design pairing. Strong performers may be considered for a full-time return offer. The internship is based in Palo Alto, California, and is hybrid; the number of required office days is unspecified.

Interns will build and test backend services and APIs, work with large-scale data pipelines, and own a scoped project from design through production. They will collaborate with engineers across teams and present their work to the engineering team at the end of the internship. The role offers experience with real customer workflows and production systems.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a BS or MS in Computer Science or a closely related field.
• At least one substantial project or prior internship that the candidate can explain in depth, including the problem, design choices, trade-offs, and potential changes.
• Solid programming skills in Java or Python, with curiosity about other languages.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
• Ability to learn quickly, ask good questions, and use AI tools effectively.

Nice To Haves

• Exposure to REST APIs, SQL or NoSQL databases, or cloud platforms; AWS is preferred.
• Experience with Git, unit testing, and CI workflows.
• Interest in geospatial data, climate, energy, or infrastructure.
• Open-source contributions, hackathon projects, or a public GitHub portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test backend services and APIs in Java or Python.
• Own a scoped project end to end, from design documentation through production.
• Work with data pipelines processing satellite, sensor, and operational data at scale.
• Write clean, tested, well-documented code and participate in code reviews.
• Use AI coding tools thoughtfully while maintaining quality.
• Debug issues across services and learn how production systems behave under real load.
• Seek feedback early, act on it, and partner with engineers across teams to understand how work fits the broader platform.
• Present internship work to the engineering team.
