Software Engineering Co-op (Spring/Summer 2027)

About The Position

This is a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session that will run January-August, requiring students to take a semester off from coursework to fully engage in this working mentorship opportunity. The role involves joining a team that develops world-class computing platforms powering critical aircraft flight and mission systems. The software developed will be used in advanced avionics for military and commercial aviation.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 29 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Strong development experience with C and C++

Nice To Haves

  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.
  • Collaboration skills for working across engineering teams on design and implementation
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain flight-critical embedded software for next-generation aviation and mission solutions
  • Work hands-on with embedded Linux, C/C++, networking protocols, device drivers, hardware interfaces, and simulation environments
  • Build high-integrity systems that meet rigorous safety, reliability, and airworthiness standards
  • Define requirements, implement features, develop test procedures, perform verification activities, and produce certification-ready artifacts
